Description
Managers and supervisors need to stay abreast of employment laws and regulations. In this course, you will develop a strong foundation of laws affecting employers. Topics include employee handbooks, hiring practices, wages and overtime, personnel files, performance evaluation and discipline. Managers and human resource professionals will gain the following skills:
Understand the pros and cons of employee handbooks
Identify and define what it means to be an "at-will" employer
Determine the best procedures to maintain personnel files
Understand the legal considerations for performance appraisals, discipline, termination, COBRA and unemployment
Instructor Sally Field, MBA, SPHR, CBM, is a working professional in the field of Human Resources. She is an adjunct faculty member at UW-River Falls.
Fee $199. Offered as noncredit only. Held at the UW-River Falls Hudson Center, conveniently located near US I94 off exit 2. The facility features on-site parking and close proximity to amenities including restaurants and coffee shops. One of three Business Professional Development courses offered this spring.
