Walker Farms hold six week-long day camp sessions throughout June, July and August. Kids in camp will gain experience working with horses on the ground, practicing riding skills in the saddle, and learning about equine management.
Camp runs from 9am until 1pm Monday through Friday. Kids will be assigned their own horse for the week on Monday, and by Friday we will host a small show for parents, friends and relatives who want to see what their camper has accomplished throughout the week. Campers will learn how to catch and lead their horse, practice grooming and saddling, and learn all the basic riding skills.
In addition to spending each morning in the saddle, campers will have an afternoon session learning about other aspects of horse care and management. Kids will have a chance to learn about feeding, make their own horse treats, learn about veterinary care and practice taking their horse's vital signs, label the parts of their saddles and bridles, and label horse parts. Each day in camp has a worksheet activity covering our horse management topic for the day.
